Importing Furniture from Indonesia to Singapore: A Complete Reference
Every stage of getting commercial furniture from our factory floor in Jepara to your property in Singapore — production, shipping, customs and GST, on-site installation, and the clean handover at the end of it.
No Full-Container Minimum — Even a Single Chair Ships
Most Indonesian manufacturers won’t move a shipment until you’ve filled a container. We run consolidated shipments to Singapore every month, so if you need one replacement chair, we send one chair — door to door, no full-load order required.
Terms & Costs, in One Place
The numbers procurement teams usually have to chase across five different emails, upfront.
From Quotation to a Finished Room, Stage by Stage
Each stage lists what you’ll need to provide and what Urban Maisons handles, so nothing falls into a gap between the two.
Consultation & Quotation
Share your floor plan, quantities, and style direction. Factory visits to Jepara are available by appointment for procurement teams and designers who want to see production firsthand.
Design Sign-Off & Sampling
Confirm fabric, powder-coat, rope, or teak finish. Standard customisation on dining furniture comes at no extra cost, so you can match an existing brand palette without a surcharge.
Deposit & Production Slot Confirmed
A 50% deposit locks your order into the production schedule at our own Jepara factory — not a shared workshop, so your slot isn’t competing against another buyer’s order.
Production at the Jepara Facility
Built across our 4,000 sqm facility by 50+ in-house craftsmen, using SVLK/V-Legal and FLEGT certified timber. Every 40ft container shipped funds roughly 50 trees through our Tree4Trees reforestation partnership.
Quality Control & Pre-Shipment Balance
Every piece is checked against your original spec before it leaves the factory. The remaining 50% balance is due once QC is cleared and the order is ready for export.
Monthly Consolidated Shipping to Singapore
With 5+ containers moving every month, your order doesn’t need to wait for a container to fill on its own. Single pieces and full projects run through the same monthly shipping rhythm.
Customs Clearance Into Singapore
SVLK/FLEGT export paperwork travels with every shipment. Our logistics partner files the Singapore Customs import permit through TradeNet and manages the GST declaration on your behalf — see the documents section below for exactly what’s involved.
White-Glove Delivery to Site
Delivery direct to your address, anywhere in Singapore — from CBD fine-dining rooms to island properties. No curbside drop-off, no separate freight forwarder to coordinate.
On-Site Installation by the Urban Maisons Team
Our own team — not a subcontractor — assembles and places every piece according to your floor plan, so the person who built the piece’s spec is accountable for how it sits in the room.
Warranty & Aftercare
Outdoor furniture carries a one-year manufacturer warranty. Need a single replacement piece years later? There’s no minimum order — the same door-to-door process applies.
What Actually Gets Filed, and Who Files It
Furniture carries no customs duty into Singapore — only GST applies, calculated on the shipment’s CIF value. Here’s what’s involved and who’s responsible for each part.
| Document / Cost | Who Handles It | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial Invoice & Packing List | Urban Maisons | Issued with every shipment; used for customs valuation |
| Bill of Lading | Freight forwarder | Confirms the shipment and container details |
| SVLK / FLEGT Export Documentation | Urban Maisons | Certifies legal, traceable timber sourcing |
| Singapore Customs Import Permit (TradeNet) | Logistics / declaring agent | Filed against the importer’s UEN before the shipment clears |
| GST (9% of CIF value) | Payable at import | Furniture is non-dutiable — only GST applies, no separate customs duty |
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| CIF value (goods + freight + insurance) | S$5,000 |
| Customs duty (furniture is non-dutiable) | S$0 |
| GST at 9% of CIF value | S$450 |
| Total import tax payable | S$450 |
Urban Maisons vs. a Typical Importer
| Aspect | Typical Importer / Trading Co. | Urban Maisons |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum order | Full container (FCL) required | Single piece or full project, same process |
| Who makes the furniture | Often a reseller sourcing from third-party factories | Own factory in Jepara, Central Java |
| On-site installation | Referred to a third-party contractor | Own team installs, same visit |
| Timber certification | Varies, not always verifiable | SVLK / V-Legal + FLEGT certified on every shipment |
| Replacement years later | Re-quoted from scratch, may not match | Matched to original spec, no minimum order |
Mistakes We See Buyers Make
Assuming “no customs duty” means “no import cost”
Furniture is non-dutiable, but GST at 9% of the CIF value still applies. Budget for it up front rather than at the invoice stage.
Waiting to fill a full container before ordering
Holding a single replacement piece for months to justify a container isn’t necessary with a supplier running monthly consolidated shipments.
Leaving UEN or Customs Account activation to the last minute
The Singapore import permit can’t be filed without it, and this is one of the more common causes of clearance delays.
Skipping a sample or factory sign-off before a large production run
A mismatch found after 6–10 weeks of production is far costlier to fix than one caught at the sampling stage.
Assuming any installer can complete a factory-specified assembly
Fit and finish checks done at the factory are only worth as much as the installation matching them — a generalist contractor wasn’t part of that process.
We Leave the Site the Way We Found It
Packaging, crating, and offcuts leave with our team on the same visit. A hotel opening or restaurant launch doesn’t have room in the schedule for a second cleanup crew, so it isn’t part of the plan here.
- All crating, foam, and packaging removed same-day
- Floors and surfaces wiped down after assembly
- Furniture positioned to final floor plan, not just dropped off
- Walk-through with your team before we leave the site
Built by the Same Factory, Every Time
Direct Manufacturer, No Agent
Everything ships from our own 4,000 sqm Jepara facility — not a trading company reselling another producer’s stock.
Certified & Traceable Timber
SVLK/V-Legal and FLEGT certification on every shipment, with Tree4Trees reforestation built into the container count.
No-MOQ Replacement Program
A single chair or bench ordered years later ships the same way a full project does — no minimum, no re-quote hassle.
Importing Furniture From Indonesia — FAQ
Do I need to order a full container to get furniture from Indonesia?
No. We run consolidated shipments to Singapore every month, so a single piece ships door-to-door without waiting to fill a container.
Do I need to pay customs duty on furniture imported from Indonesia?
No. Furniture is a non-dutiable good in Singapore. GST at 9% of the CIF value still applies, but there’s no separate customs duty on top.
What is the GST rate on furniture imports into Singapore?
9%, calculated on the CIF value (cost of goods, insurance, and freight combined) as of the current Singapore Customs and IRAS rate.
Who files the Singapore Customs import permit?
Our logistics partner files the TradeNet import permit and manages the GST declaration as part of the delivery process.
How long does the full process take, start to finish?
Production runs 6–10 weeks depending on the order, plus shipping and clearance into Singapore. We confirm an exact date once your spec is finalised.
Who installs the furniture on-site in Singapore?
Our own Urban Maisons team handles on-site installation — not a third-party contractor — and clears all packaging before leaving.
What happens if a piece is damaged in transit?
Every shipment is checked on arrival as part of the installation visit. Flag any transit damage at that stage and we’ll arrange a replacement.
Can I customise fabric or finish after production has started?
Changes are easiest before production begins. Once cutting and joinery are underway, later changes may affect the production timeline — we’ll confirm case by case.
Is there a minimum order value for single-item, door-to-door shipping?
No fixed minimum. Pricing runs at roughly S$200 per CBM door-to-door, whether that’s one chair or a full room.
What certifications does your timber carry?
SVLK (V-Legal) and FLEGT certified, with Tree4Trees planting roughly 50 trees for every 40ft container shipped.
Do you clean up after installation?
Yes — packaging, crating, and offcuts are removed the same day, and surfaces are wiped down before we leave the site.
Can you work directly with our interior designer or architect?
Yes — we regularly work directly with design and architecture teams from concept drawings through to final spec and installation.
